AWWA invites utilities, communities to celebrate Drinking Water Week

Drinking Water Week, the annual observance led by the American Water Works Association (AWWA), will take place May 4-10, 2025. This week-long celebration aims to increase public understanding of water systems, the vital role of safe drinking water, and the dedication of water professionals who work around the clock to keep tap water flowing.

Recognizing Drinking Water Week provides an opportunity to educate the public, foster community connection, and promote awareness of the essential work behind our water systems. Water utilities often find themselves in headlines during challenging situations, but this observance offers a platform to showcase the positive contributions of safe drinking water and well-maintained water systems, emphasizing the science behind water treatment and the importance of infrastructure investment.

AWWA offers members free downloadable resources in English – with select materials in Spanish – to support Drinking Water Week outreach. This year’s toolkit includes:

  • 2025 logos
  • Suggested social media posts
  • Mayoral and gubernatorial proclamations
  • Press release templates
  • A local influencer engagement guide
  • Additional assets coming soon – including social media graphics, children’s activities and more

These materials can be used to inform consumers, public officials and media about the value of safe drinking water and the dedicated professionals who ensure and protect it from collection to treatment to delivery.

AWWA will also engage members, water consumers and social media influencers through its LinkedIn, Instagram, X and Facebook platforms.

For celebration ideas, such as in-person community gatherings, art contests, or utilizing the opportunity to publicize the release of your consumer confidence report, visit the Drinking Water Week page.
